Following detailed surveys of their off‑site collection storage facilities, National Museums Liverpool identified the need for targeted intervention to improve safety, efficiency and long‑term care of their stored collections. Mortice were appointed to lead the planning of this work, ahead of a multi‑stage programme that would begin with a full review of the building, its storage systems and documentation practices.
As part of a series of projects to safeguard their collections, Mortice were brought in to support Hartlepool Museums and Archives address the challenge faced by many cultural organisations – the lack of sufficient, suitable collections storage that meets professional standards while still supporting day‑to‑day operational needs.
Mortice were appointed to support the River & Rowing Museum (RRM) at a critical moment in its lifecycle. With the main museum building over two decades old, RRM recognised that significant elements of its estate and infrastructure were approaching the end of their operational life.
